PAPUA - A heartwarming scene unfolded in Bukit Sion Sinak Village, Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua, on Thursday, March 20, 2025. The striped uniforms of the Yonif 700/Wyc Mobile Border Security Task Force blended seamlessly with the simple attire of the local residents. Together, they cleaned Bukit Sion Church, transforming it into a serene and welcoming place of worship.
But this effort was more than just sweeping floors and dusting pews it was a profound expression of the TNI’s dedication to the spiritual well-being of the Papuan people. Under the leadership of Lieutenant Inf Iwan Simon, Mental Development Officer of Task Force 700, the soldiers worked diligently, cleaning every corner of the church with the same care and devotion as if they were purifying their own hearts.
"This social initiative is a reflection of the TNI’s commitment to serving the community, especially in remote border areas, " said Lieutenant Inf Iwan Simon warmly.
"We want to provide a clean and comfortable place of worship for the congregation, fostering a deeper sense of peace and togetherness."
With every broomstroke and dust cloth, a bond of unity was strengthened between the TNI and the people. It was more than just cleaning a church it was about breaking down barriers, dispelling misunderstandings, and building bridges of trust and brotherhood.
An elderly woman stood in the background, her eyes glistening with emotion as she watched the soldiers at work.
"Thank you, TNI. Our church is now clean and beautiful, " she said, her voice trembling.
"Our hearts feel lighter too."

Between tasks, the soldiers took time to interact with the residents, sharing stories, laughter, and warmth. Their presence was not just that of security forces, but of friends, of family.
But beyond the sweeping and scrubbing, this was a moment of profound symbolism. In a region often troubled by conflict, the presence of TNI soldiers brought a sense of stability and hope. They were not only protecting the borders of the nation but also protecting the hearts and spirits of the people.
"We are here to strengthen friendship and unity with the community, " said First Lieutenant Iwan Simon.
"We are part of them, and we will always be here for them."
Echoing this sentiment, Pangkoops Habema reflected on the role of TNI in Papua, emphasizing that their mission goes beyond military duties it is about moral responsibility, compassion, and dedication to peace.
"These soldiers are unsung heroes, " he said.
"They serve not only with weapons, but with their hearts, sincerely dedicating themselves to the progress and harmony of the nation."
In Papua, a land of both breathtaking beauty and great challenges, the TNI continues to be a pillar of strength, unity, and hope bringing not just security, but also love and peace to the people.
